In the manufacturing industry, under different working conditions, the air compressors are used in different environments. The air contains dust, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, organic compounds, grit and other fine dust particles. During the operation of the air compressor, the air enters the host through the air filter. Therefore, the air filter has become the first line of defense of the air compressor system.
What is an air filter?
The Air compressor air filter is composed of an air filter assembly and a filter element. The outside is connected to the intake valve of the air compressor through a joint and a threaded pipe, so as to filter the dust, particles and other impurities in the air.
Working principle of air filtration
The particulate pollutants suspended in the air are composed of solid or liquid particles. Atmospheric dust can be divided into narrow atmospheric dust and broad atmospheric dust: atmospheric dust in a narrow sense refers to solid particles in the atmosphere, that is, real dust; the modern concept of atmospheric dust includes both solid particles and polydisperse aerosols of liquid particles. It specifically refers to the suspended particles in the atmosphere, with a particle size of less than 10μm, which is a broad sense of atmospheric dust.
For particles larger than 10μm, because they are heavier, after a period of irregular Brownian motion, they will gradually sink to the ground under the action of gravity, which is the main target of ventilation and dust removal; 0.1---10μm in the atmosphere Dust particles also move irregularly in the air. Because of their light weight, they tend to float with the airflow and are difficult to settle on the ground. Therefore, the concept of atmospheric dust in air cleaning technology is different from the concept of dust in general dust removal technology.
Air filtration technology mainly adopts filtration and separation methods: by setting filters with different performances, the suspended dust particles and microorganisms in the air are removed, that is, the dust particles are trapped and retained by the filter material to ensure the cleanliness requirements of the air flow.
Air filtration and classification
The first line of defense to keep the air clean, to prevent air particles and impurities from entering the air compressor with the best filtration efficiency and minimum resistance, generally includes:
Vertical air filter: It is composed of a shell, various filter joints and filter elements, and has a compact structure.
Horizontal air filter: anti-collision plastic shell, no rust, large air intake, high filtration efficiency.
What are the consequences if the air filter is clogged or not replaced for a long time?
If the filter element is clogged, the air compressor will not work properly, and the air pressure will be much lower, resulting in lower production capacity of the back-end machine.
If the filter element is clogged and no longer has a filtering effect, relatively large particles of impurities in the atmosphere will enter the airend, and the airend of the main engine may be stuck. Over time, scratches on the surface of the screw rotor will appear, and the screw rotor will be slightly damaged The air compressor's main engine noise will become louder, and the screw main engine will be directly bitten and scrapped.
If the filtering accuracy of the air filter is not high, a large amount of fine dust will be sucked into the air compressor, polluting the lubricating oil of the air compressor, and then affecting the core components such as rotors and bearings, and ultimately reducing the efficiency of the main engine and shortening the life; the dust enters the oil. The oil filter increases the burden of the oil filter. In severe cases, the oil filter is blocked, causing the air compressor to jump at high temperature; dust enters the oil, causing the oil to block, and in severe cases, the oil is deformed, causing the air compressor to run off.
If the air filter has poor waterproof performance, it is easy to be damp, which will affect the smooth suction of the air compressor, and the air filter will be folded or even blocked, resulting in waste of electricity.
It is recommended that you perform regular professional maintenance according to the air compressor manual configured by the manufacturer. Generally speaking, according to the air environment of the air compressor, users with large dust and particularly harsh environment are best to clean the filter once a day, blow it with an air gun, and strictly follow the manufacturer’s maintenance week.
